Longford District Court: Fine for no seatbelt on child

Child in the back seat of car
A driver who had a child in the back seat of his car without a seatbelt was fined €400 at Longford District Court.
Sergeant Mark Mahon told the court that officers stopped Martin Stokes (32) of Corboy, Edgeworthstown, Longford on March 8, 2023 at Granard Road, Aghafin, Edgeworthstown at 9:23am.
Sgt Mahon said an inspection of the vehicle showed that there was an unrestrained three year old child in the rear seat with no booster seat or seat belt.
The prosecuting sergeant told Judge Bernadette Owens that the defendant had two previous convictions.
Solicitor Brid Mimnagh informed the judge that her client was not in court for the matter.
Taking the facts of the case into consideration Judge Owens imposed a fine of €400 giving Mr Stokes six months to pay.
