Longford Westmeath election count resumes this morning

December 1st, 2024 and Fine Gael stalwart in the Longford Westmeath constituency will be hoping to open their second early Christmas present in the form of two Dáil seats by the end of today.

With one already in the bag, thanks to Peter Burke’s election at 10:30pm last night, hopes are high that Micháel Carrigy will be added to the list of the party’s elected representatives by close of business today.

It won’t be a short shift, the first order of business is to transfer Deputy Burke's 549 votes.

There are a lot of candidates to be eliminated before the five seats are called.
