Parents relieved as Longford-Ballymahon school bus service reinstated

A school bus service from Longford to the secondary schools in Ballymahon will be re-instated in time for the new school term, Cathaoirleach Kevin Hussey confirmed
There has been widespread relief among Longford parents following today’s confirmed return of a vital bus service from Longford to Ballymahon secondary schools.
The news brings to an end considerable uncertainty regarding the student’s transport arrangements come the new school term.
Cathaoirelach Kevin Hussey announced the news in a post today, stating, “I’m delighted to confirm that Peter Nevin’s Taxis & Bus Hire will now be providing the school bus service from Longford to the Ballymahon secondary schools for the 2026/2027 school year.”
Expressing his thanks to the parents, schools and service provider involved, the Cathaoirleach credited the return of the service to community cooperation.
He added, “Over the past few weeks, many parents contacted me after the previous service came to an end. I want to sincerely thank everyone who got in touch, shared information, and supported this effort. Working together with parents, both secondary schools, and Peter Nevin’s, we were able to help get this much-needed service back in place.”
“Peter and the Nevin family have built a fantastic reputation over many years as a respected local business here in Longford. I have every confidence that they will provide a reliable, professional and safe service for the children travelling to and from school each day.”
