Dangerous bridge on the Offaly border 'taking huge volume of traffic'

The bridge beside the former location of the Angler's Rest pub on the R438 on the Offaly Tipperary border was raised as a matter of concern by Cllr Michael O'Meara during the April 18 monthly meeting of Nenagh Municipal District.
“We need traffic lights there and a one way system,” he remarked. “It is too narrow. The road is used by many, including parents bringing their children to school in Banagher.
"Perhaps a joint venture between ourselves and Offaly County Council could solve this dangerous problem?
"A lot of people are using the road from Athlone to Nenagh, passing through Taylor's Cross and Borrisokane. It's a bit like a rat run. The huge volume of traffic includes a lot of big trucks.
"We need to copy what we did with the bridge in Riverstown, which has worked very well, and is the solution to the combination of heavy traffic and narrow bridges.”
