Five people in Offaly arrested for intoxicated driving

FIVE people have been arrested for intoxicated driving in the Birr Garda District (covering West and South Offaly) since May 1.

Four of the people have been charged with drink driving and one has been charged with drug driving. They were stopped and breathalysed at checkpoints in Ferbane and Birr.

The Garda Spokesperson said the number of checkpoints will be substantially increased across the District during the June Bank Holiday this weekend.

"As well as drink and drug driving," he remarked, "there will also be greater surveillance of speeding and seatbelt offences over the long weekend."
