'Grave and immediate danger to public health' - Offaly food business served with closure order

An Offaly food business where the HSE described some of the practices found during an inspection as having a 'grave and immediate danger to public health' was served with a Closure Order in June.
Details of the Closure Order have been published today by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
According to the Closure Order, Lynn's Pantry, Backwood, Cloneygowan, was served with the order on June 16. The order has not yet been lifted as of today (July 13). It was served under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998.
During an inspection, a HSE Officer four contraventions of legislation and each was described as posing a grave and immediate danger to public health were discovered.
According to the report, at the time of the inspection there was a failure to implement and maintain permanent procedures
based on the HACCP principles. Cleaning procedures were not in place as evidenced by the 'unsatisfactory level of hygiene' noted during this inspection and foodstuffs were not being protected from contamination.
The report also stated that the food premises was not kept clean and unhygienic conditions were noted at the time of inspection. The report said that all walls and floors were in an unclean condition and encrusted with dirt, rubbish and food
debris while dead flies and insects were noted throughout the food preparation and storage areas. The report added that this was 'not an exhaustive list'.
The report found that all food contact surfaces including equipment throughout the premises were not effectively cleaned.
The report also found that the fly killing unit was located directly above the food preparation table which contained open
food. Buns were also found to be cooling underneath the extraction canopy which had cobwebs and insects visible.
