A ROMANIAN man was charged with begging in Tullamore during the December 20 sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Daniel Gheorghe, NFA, Tullamore was charged with committing the offence on Bridge Street on December 9  last.

The court was told that when Mr Gheorghe was asked by a member of the Gardaí to “desist from acting in such a manner and to leave the vicinity of that place in a peaceful and orderly manner” he failed to comply with the direction.

The court was told that the defendant was homeless on the date of the offence and was “living rough”.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded Mr Gheorghe on continuing bail to January 10 next for a plea or date.

He said the continuing bail was on the condition that the defendant doesn't “sit or beg on the streets of Tullamore.”
