A MAN who drove at speeds of 159 kilometres in a 120 kilometre zone was due to get married last  Monday, Tullamore District Court heard.

Paddy Connors, (21) of 37, Hawkfield, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, was stopped by Garda Mark Rabbittee at a speedcheck on the M7 at Busherstown, Co. Offaly, on April 2, 2023.

A fixed charge penalty notice went unpaid.

His solicitor said Mr Connors completely forgot to pay. And he apologises to the court.

''He is getting married this Monday morning,'' his solicitor said.

Mr Connors had one previous conviction from Tallaght district court dating back to 2021.

Judge Andrew Cody said at almost 160 kilometres, he was the author of his own misfortune.

He fined the defendant €500 and gave him three months to pay.
