Offaly road closure that caused huge traffic delays ends amid major relief for locals

The closure has caused huge traffic tailbacks in Edenderry
A road closure causing traffic chaos in Edenderry since January has ended this week.
The link road from Dunnes Stores to the Carrick Road has been closed for almost two months but reopened to traffic at 4pm on Friday, March 15.
It had been thought the road, which serves as a bypass from one end of the town to the other, would have to close again after the St Patrick's Day weekend but that will not now be required.
Cllr Noel Cribbin said: "These upgrades works are now completely finished with no more delays expected."
There is some bad news as the street lighting on the route will not be immediately available. Walkers are being told to refrain from using the route until street lighting is switched on.
"Works will continue on Phase 2 of our new Inner Relief road with no effect on traffic flow, it's hoped this section will be finished by the end of May 2024," Cllr Cribbin continued.
"Big thanks to contractors, council staff and all involved for delivering this important piece of infrastructure on time."
