Offaly social media sensation 'The Digger Dad' has revealed a major career change, which involves ditching the digger!
Shane Gallagher has become a viral sensation on TikTok and Instagram, singing in his digger over recent years.
Shane, more popularly known as 'The Digger Dad', is originally from Daingean, and now lives in Brisbane, Australia with his wife and their two children.
He has now revealed that he is quitting his day job working in a digger to be a full-time stay-at-home dad with his kids.
And he has received an overwhelmingly positive response to the decision, which he recently revealed on social media.
“Let’s get one thing straight, you are not going to make an absolute fortune driving diggers,” he said of his decision.
He said they are in the lucky position that one of them can stay at home with their kids. “My wife, I’m not ashamed to say it, makes a hell of a lot more than me when she works. And she has to work a lot less hours than me to make that money,” he said.
“She is more qualified than I am and she has got a great job. And she loves her job. She loves her job more than I love driving diggers. So, it makes more sense for her to go to work and do what she loves doing, while I stay at home and try not to pull my hair out raising children,” he said.
Shane has been taken aback by the reaction to his decision. “Folks, God I am inundated with messages on my last post. It's unreal. The support for the decision to quit the job and focus on home is unreal. Particularly from the fellas. A lot of private messages of support and wishing they could do or did the same. I was always ridiculed by fellas for wanting to do it but to see the support coming in is mad,” he said.
However, his momentous decision has thrown up one major question on his name. “There are also calls for me to change my name from The Digger Dad. Surely we can keep that no? “ he said with laughing emojis.
And the response to that from many was that he should keep the name.
One of his followers commented: “No other name, you ARE the digger dad”.
Another suggested tweaking his name to The Dinner Dad.
