Tullamore District Court was told the woman was driving while disqualified when she was stopped by gardai

An Offaly woman was disqualified from holding a driving licence for a period of ten years during the April 17 of Tullamore District Court.

Pamela Simmomson, 22A Castle Mall, Birr was stopped by the Gardai on Emmet Street, Birr on March 30, 2024 and charged with having no insurance and no driving licence.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that Ms Simmomson was driving while disqualified when she was stopped.

“She had been disqualified since May 2022 for a period of five years for no insurance,” he said. He added that she had twenty previous convictions including four convictions for no insurance.

The defending solicitor told the Judge that his client is a single mother with three children.

“She has been homeless since she lost her job,” he remarked. “When she was stopped she was living at the time in the car.”

Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €300. He sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment, suspending for two years, and disqualified from driving for ten years.
