Offaly woman with 'colossal' alcohol level disqualified from driving for three years

Offaly woman with 'colossal' alcohol level put disqualified from driving for three years
THE alcohol level in the drink-driver's breath was colossal, Judge Andrew Cody said at Tullamore District Court.
Judge Cody made the comment after being told that Sharon Ryle (41), Ard na Greine, Tullamore who admitted driving with excess alcohol in her breath on May 18 last, had a concentration of 104 micrograms per 100 millilitres.
Sergeant Richard Thornton said the woman had no previous convictions.
Ms Ryle's solicitor, Patrick Martin, said the alcohol reading was high and told the court the woman's daughter had been unwell so at first she walked to a shop but then went home and stupidly drove to another shop.
Mr Martin said his client was a mother of two who worked as a cleaner and disqualification from driving would have a huge impact on her. He sought a postponement of the driving ban to assist the woman.
Judge Cody noted that 66 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath was the highest bracket when assessing the penalty to be imposed.
He fined the woman €300 and disqualified her from driving for three years.
