Warning issued after 'lucky' escape from potential forest fire at Offaly tourist site
A warning has been issued after a potential forest fire at Derryounce Lake near Portarlington was averted by quick actions of the local fire service and volunteers.
Derryounce Experience thanked their dedicated volunteers who initially located the fire which is understood to have been smouldering overnight.
They also said they were grateful to the firefighters who contained the fire.
“Please obey all signage at Derryounce especially the No BBQs or naked flames. We are lucky that this fire was caught on time,” Derryounce Experience urged
Portarlington Fire Brigade arrived within minutes of the call to attend to the fire, otherwise it could have quickly got out of hand.
Derryounce Lake and woods is located at Derryvilla, in east Offaly, just outside Portarlington.
