Gardai say the fatal incident, involving a car and a motorbike, happened on Monday afternoon

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in a road crash in County Monaghan.

The fatal incident, involving a car and a motorbike, happened on the R190 at Lisnalong, close to the Cavan border in the west of the county, at around 1.20pm on Monday.

"The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital," said a garda spokesperson.

The R190, between Ballybay and Cootehill, was closed for a time to allow for the scene to be examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. It has since re-opened and the diversions have been lifted.

Gardai say the local coroner has been notified and that arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination to be carried out on the man's body.

Any witnesses to the fatal crash or any motorists with relevant camera footage are asked to come forward and to make any footage available to gardai.
