'Buy a rose' - Carlow mum living with CF makes heartfelt appeal ahead of major fundraiser

Carlow woman Kelsey Nolan and her son are supporting 65 Roses Day this year

People across Carlow are being urged to show their support this month as 65 Roses Day returns on Friday, April 10.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland is calling on locals to help meet a €300,000 fundraising target, with volunteers set to sell purple roses in Dunnes Stores, shopping centres and other participating outlets.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited condition that affects multiple systems including breathing, digestion and reproduction. Ireland has the highest rate of CF per capita in the world, with more than 1,400 people living with the condition and 33 new cases diagnosed each year.

While advances in treatment mean many people are now living well into adulthood, the condition remains lifelong and complex, with no cure.

Encouraging people in Carlow to get involved is local woman Kelsey Nolan, who is living with CF.

"My name is Kelsey and I am a mum, a partner, a daughter and a friend. I also have Cystic Fibrosis. Thankfully I am living well and long may that last.

"But living well with CF takes an extra layer of hard work that people don't always appreciate or see. The support from CFI is invaluable, whether that is a grant or just having someone to talk to.

"On 65 Roses Day, I'm calling on everyone to buy a rose, visit Dunnes Stores or donate online! Every donation goes towards supporting people with CF in Ireland."

Funds raised will help Cystic Fibrosis Ireland continue to provide essential supports, including a dedicated information and support line, financial assistance grants and peer-support groups.

As part of this year's campaign, a new exhibition titled 'Rewriting Tomorrow' will also take place in Dublin, featuring letters and artwork from people living with CF, reflecting on their hopes for the future.

CFI is urging people in Carlow to support the campaign so that vital services can continue nationwide. People can support 65 Roses Day by purchasing a purple rose or donating online.
