The Ulster squad ahead of the FAI Schools U-18 Interprovincials
This evening, Friday, news manager Oisin McMenmain will lead the Ulster squad into action at the FAI Schools U-18 Boys’ Interprovincial Tournament which will take place in the AUL Complex, Clonshaugh.
Ulster have a fresh look about them with a whole new squad involved as well as a rejuvenated management team. MeManamin, of St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, will take charge replacing stalwart Paul Browne of St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny, who has spent the last eight years with his province.
Joining McMenamin will be James Rodgers of Finn Valley College, Stranorlar, and Gary McHugh from Royal School, Cavan. McMenamin played in this tournament in 2007 while representing St Eunan’s College, with Leinster winning the tournament in Monaghan that season.
Connacht won the coveted title 12 months ago and will be eager to continue this success in 2022. The three-day event will see a series of six matches played with provinces awarded two points for a win and one point for a draw. The format leaves for an exciting finale in the Sunday morning outings.
On Friday evening the four teams are in action as 2019 winners Leinster line out against Munster at 4pm while Ulster will take on the defending champions Connacht at 6.30pm.
In keeping with the long-standing tradition of maintaining the interest in the competition until the final matches on Sunday, the draw for Saturday’s and Sunday’s matches will be made following the games on Friday evening. Schools International Head Coach John McShane is hoping to hold his first assessment on December 17 as the players look to impress over the course of the weekend.
