Plans have been lodged for a major €4 million wedding village development at Ballindoolin House in north west Kildare - aiming to expand the venue’s capacity and establish it as a destination for multi-day celebrations.

The application proposes the construction of 30 single-storey, detached pod-style accommodation units for wedding guests. Two additional single-storey pods are also planned as “getting ready” rooms for both sides of a wedding party.

A central feature of the proposal is a prefabricated marquee-style structure (above) - to be erected on a seasonal basis - which would operate as a dedicated wedding venue beside the existing commercial facilities.

The plans also include a new access road linking the current car park to the proposed wedding village.

Infrastructure works form a key part of the development - including upgrades to the existing secondary effluent treatment system and the addition of a new percolation area. Associated site works and landscaping are also included.

Ballindoolin House is listed as a protected structure under the Kildare County Development Plan 2023-2029 - a factor likely to be considered as part of the planning process.

The application has been made by Ballindoolin House Ltd - with planning prepared by Whyte Planning Consultants Ltd.

The project - which has an estimated floor area of 1,310 square metres on a 3.91-hectare site - is  currently at planning application stage.

If approved - the development could provide a boost to the local tourism and events sector in north Kildare - with potential for increased visitor numbers and employment in the area.
