Popular Kilkenny takeaway to close 'with a heavy heart' after almost 50 years

A County Kilkenny takeaway has announced its impending closure with a 'heavy heart'.

Central Takeaway, based on the Main Street in Thomastown, confirmed on social media that it would close for the final time on Saturday, February 28 after 45 years in business.

In a lengthy and heart wrenching post online, the takeaway's owners cited family reasons for their decision.

"It's with a heavy heart we have to write this," the takeaway posted on social media.

"Its a decision that did not come lightly, one of the hardest decisions we had to make.

"Central Takeaway will be closing on February 28, 2026. Due to family life and running a business, it's become impossible to do both.

"As for my kids, they are getting older and I'm taking time that they need away from them to run a business.

"So I have chosen to close to be at home with my family. In saying that we would like to thank each and every person who has walked through our door.

"Be it new customers or lifelong ones, staff, without each and every one of you we would not have been able to be in business for the last 45 years.

"Being a part of this community has been an absolute pleasure that we will miss dearly - from the chats, the craic, the stories the hard times and the changes, thesr are things we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

"So with that, thank you for all your support and custom over the last 45 years. We will miss you all. From Bruno, Stasia, Sonia, Darren, and all the staff in Central Takeaway."
