A new footpath has been requested in Ballyroan, to link the town to St Patrick's Cemetery further out on the Abbeyleix Road.

Fianna Fáil Cllr John Joe Fennelly says that it is “very dangerous” for pedestrians to walk on the road.

He tabled a motion with his request to the April meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

“This is a necessity, especially for people parking to go to the cemetery. There are no parking places so people park on the left, in front of the houses.

“To walk back up is very dangerous. If you could progress this it would be a great amenity to the town.

“Anyone coming from Abbeyleix, from 100 yards past Green Road there is no path. We took the hedge out to make it safer, is there a possibility we might get in a path,” he asked.
