Road markings have eroded on two main streets, including outside a primary school, in Portarlington, Laois County Council has heard.

Portarlington's local councillor, Aidan Mullins, has requested Laois County Council to refresh the road markings on Crowe Lane and Sandy Lane in the town, especially outside Sandy Lane NS.

Speaking at the March meeting of the Graiguecullen/Portarlington MD, Cllr Mullins explained that he raised a motion a couple of months ago for the council to remark the main streets in Portarlington and these works were carried out.

However, he said that new road markings are needed particularly on Crowe Lane at Portarlington Library and outside Sandy Lane NS where the markings have completely gone.

The Independent councillor also noted that the stop line on the Portlaoise road has "eroded away over time."

Cllr Mullins said he did expect these streets to be part of the recent upgrades, but he is now asking for them to be completed.

As he put it, "they really need this, especially at the school."

Senior Executive Engineer at Laois County Council, Tom Drennan, said that the council will review the line marking condition on Crowe Lane and Sandy Lane and if warranted they will schedule these streets for renewal.

The works will be subject to available resources.
