Louth councillors remember former Independent councillor Jim Ryan

Former Cllr Jim Ryan, who passed away recently

Councillors at the Louth County Council April meeting, remembered the late Jim Ryan who passed away on Sunday. Mr Ryan served as a local councillor from 1999, when he was elected to the old Dundalk Town Council, until 2014, when he lost his seat  in the Dundalk-Carlingford constituency in the local elections.

Cathaoirleach Conor Keelan told members at the monthly meeting that he had the privilege of knowing Mr Ryan, Cllr Keelan's father having served with Mr Ryan on the old Town Council. Cllr Kevin Meenan expressed his sympathies on the passing of Mr Ryan along with other councillors at the meeting, with Chief Executive Joan Martin adding that Mr Ryan was a lovely man and that she was very sorry to hear of his passing.

Mr Ryan passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. He was predeceased by his parents John and Kathleen, daughter Vanessa and granddaughter Elyssa. 

He is remembered by his wife Ann, daughter Carol, sons John and Stephen, daughters-in-law Ciara and Stephanie, son-in-law Stephen, grandchildren Isabbella, Ayda, Rosie, Phoebe, Mina, Ryan and Grace, sisters Margaret and Elizabeth, brother John, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Mr Ryan will be reposing at his home from 2pm-9pm on Tuesday. His removal takes place on Wednesday at 9.30am, proceeding on foot to St. Nicholas’ Church, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am. After Mass, the cortege will continue to the Clan na Gael Grounds for a Farewell Ceremony, followed by private cremation.
