Aston Martin becomes first carmaker to use Apple’s CarPlay Ultra

Aston Martin has announced that it is one of the first car manufacturers to utilise Apple’s CarPlay Ultra system.

Building upon the existing Apple CarPlay system, the new Ultra software allows owners to mirror their smartphone’s apps across both the central touchscreen and the instrument cluster, with previous iterations of CarPlay only using the former.

Aston Martin CEO, Adrian Hallmark said: “Aston Martin is delighted to have collaborated with Apple, and to be first to launch CarPlay Ultra. As a Brand our focus on world leading performance goes beyond the traditional attributes associated with powertrains, dynamic performance and craftsmanship.

The integration of CarPlay Ultra is a clear example of the dedication to collaborate with the best companies in the world to bring unique experiences and in-vehicle capabilities to our customers. Building on our in-house state-of-the-art infotainment system, CarPlay Ultra will provide additional functionality and personalisation opportunities which place Aston Martin at the forefront of infotainment in the sector. “

Drivers will be able to toggle through a number of different cluster themes while also choosing personal colours and wallpapers. Plus, vehicle controls – such as ventilation and radio – can also be accessed from within CarPlay, rather than having to exit the system as was previously only available. Features such as maps and media can be displayed on the instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel, too.

Launched on Aston Martin’s DBX SUV, the new system will first be available on new models in the USA and Canada, though the British sports car brand has said that the availability of CarPlay Ultra will expand to all global markets within the next 12 months.
