Clonmel Racecourse all set to host its biggest day of the year

A bumper attendance is expected at Clonmel Races this afternoon

Clonmel Racecourse hosts its biggest race of the year, the Clonmel Oil Chase, this afternoon.

The Grade 2 Chase, which is worth €35,400 to the winner, goes to post at 2.40.

The fancied runners include top weight Saint Sam, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Paul Townend, and the 2021 winner Fakir d'Oudairies, trained by Joseph O'Brien and ridden by Mark Walsh.

The six-strong field also includes the Gordon Elliot-trained Fil Dor, which runs in the Robcour colours of Clonmel businessman Brian Acheson, and another Joseph O'Brien-trained entry, Solness. 

The first race on the seven-race card goes to post at 12.20, and a bumper attendance is expected at Powerstown Park.
