Much loved Cashel man Johnny Hannigan passed away in recent days.

The well-known Johnny was deeply involved in many clubs in the town and many paid tribute online. Larkspur Park posted: “Johnny was a stalwart of Larkspur, he was instrumental in the redevelopment of the tennis club in the 60’s & 70’s and gave so much in particular to the development of the clubs facilities.

“Johnny continued to be a regular visitor the club for every event.”

Cashel Rugby club posted online: “It is with great shock and sadness that we in Cashel Rugby Football Club come to terms with the passing of one of our greatest and longest serving members, Johnny Hannigan.

“Johnny has been a member of our club since his youth and served as player, under age coach, President (1973-1975) and committee member.

“In recent years his passion was the success of the club lotto to which he and his wife Dor devoted a huge amount of time and effort. The blue roses tin, full of lotto tickets was never too far away.

“Johnny’s dedication to fundraising didn't stop there - he was the beating heart of our annual Golf Classic, a testament to how he brilliantly combined his love of golf with his unwavering commitment to the club.”

The local GAA club, Cashel King Cormacs posted: “Johnny’s character and personality left its mark with all whom were fortunate to cross his path.

“A chat, a catch-up on the games locally and nationally with a few jokes thrown in always lifted the spirits for those in his company. Johnny was a huge supporter of our own fundraisers never missing a golf classic.” May he rest in peace.
