In a remarkable celebration of heritage, music, and community, Ardmayle Heritage Society is set to host a truly special event this September. The historic St John the Baptist Church in Ardmayle will be the candlelit setting for an intimate concert by rising Irish music group Burnchurch, whose deep family roots trace directly back to the area.

A Unique Venue for a Unique Band

Scheduled initially for Saturday, September 13th, the event was announced with modest expectations. However, it quickly captured the public imagination. Within 72 hours, the concert had completely sold out, prompting the Society to open a waiting list and, ultimately, announce a second and final night to meet the overwhelming demand.

The performances promise an enchanting experience. The church, already rich with history, will be transformed by candlelight into an atmospheric haven for the band’s evocative sound, making this more than just a concert: it’s a full sensory experience, connecting past and present through music.

The Burnchurch Story

Burnchurch is a four-piece group made up of two pairs of siblings, whose creative journey is deeply influenced by their Irish-speaking background and strong ties to Ardmayle. Their name comes from their townland in County Kilkenny, but their grandparents’ roots in Ardmayle make this performance a poignant homecoming.

The band first caught national attention during lockdown when they won RTÉ 2FM's Gaeltacht Tí competition. In 2021, they composed the stirring track “She,” recorded with the Loreto Choir and Orchestra. That song has since become the official anthem for over 80,000 Loreto students worldwide. More recently, Burnchurch contributed to the music for Disney’s Star Wars through a collaboration with acclaimed Irish animation house Cartoon Saloon.

Now, they’re gearing up to release their debut album, produced by the legendary Leo Pearson, known for his work blending traditional sounds with modern sonic textures. The album, due later this year, promises a mix of contemporary pop-rock with distinctly Irish musical roots.

Local Talent Takes the Stage

Adding to the excitement is the inclusion of local artist James Murphy, also known as the “Junior B Allstar,” who will perform as the support act on both nights. Murphy brings a distinctive charm and authenticity that complements Burnchurch’s heartfelt style, making him a perfect addition to the evening.

Community Spirit Shines Bright

The rapid sell-out of the initial show and the enthusiastic response to the added date highlight not only the popularity of Burnchurch but also the strength of community spirit in Ardmayle and surrounding areas. Events like this show the power of local heritage groups to breathe new life into historic venues and bring people together around shared stories, sounds, and spaces.

Tickets Still Available – But Not for Long

With Saturday night sold out and the second date quickly filling up, those hoping to witness Burnchurch by Candlelight should act fast. Tickets for the final night are available through Eventbrite here.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this magical blend of history, heritage, and homegrown talent under flickering candlelight in one of Tipperary’s most treasured churches.
