Laois’s only beach resort has been granted planning for a new bar and restaurant.
Beach Pond Glamping Resort in Clonmeen North, Errill opened last year with a unique selling point being the only beach resort in Laois.
Iveta Melgaile and Pat Bowe were granted permission to open the glamping beach resort in Errill.
In their latest application, the couple sought to “construct a new single storey bar/restaurant and covered outdoor dining area and all associated site works at Beach Pond Glamping Resort.
A planners reported noted the site was previously granted permission for “a glamping development under planning ref 21/692 which included three double units, two single units, a spa treatment unit, sauna, barbecue hut, sports activity area, fire pit, outdoor amenity area.
“The applicants now propose to construct a new single storey bar/restaurant and covered outdoor dining area to support the operation of the glamping resort. The proposed structures are located to the south of the man-made lake. The proposed dining area has a stated floor area of 150sqm and is an open sided timber framed structure with translucent sheeting to the flat roof. The bar/restaurant area contains a bar area and a kitchen and has a stated floor area of 134sqm. This structure is also open sided and is constructed with a steel portal frame with a corrugated steel roof. A keg room and a dry goods storage area are also proposed within separate structures to the rear of the bar/restaurant area. Both structures are finished with a corrugated steel roof and a nap plaster finish to the external walls,” the planner noted.
“It is considered that the proposed structures have been designed to compliment the previously permitted development and those agricultural structures on the wider site and as such will not negatively impact upon the visual character of the area. In terms of use it is considered that the proposed bar/restaurant and covered outdoor dining,” the report stated.
Laois County Council granted the application subject to nine conditions.
