Catherine to 'Brave the Shave' in support of cancer charity

A Derry woman has agreed to have her hair shaved off to raise money for a cancer charity.
Catherine Dobbin (pictured) said she was inspired by the work of Macmillan Cancer Care and has now decided to support the charity.
The big shave will take place at the home of Catherine’s mother next Sunday, August 21.
Catherine, who lives at Glendale Park in the city and turned 40 last December, said every family had been affected by cancer.
“I normally just donate and I have done the Foyle Hospice walk/ run,” she said.
“However, because of work I couldn’t do it on the last two years and I was disappointed by this.
“The last while I have been thinking on how I could help and every time I was out and about I was seeing posters for Macmillan’s ‘Brave the Shave’ and coffee mornings to help raise money.
“Since I’m not one for baking of any sort I thought shaving my hair would be a big brave step for me as I’ve had long hair since I can remember and I love it but decided to bite the bullet and sign up.”
Catherine said she had received great support after deciding to get her hair chopped off.
“! want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported my decision and especially to everyone who generously sponsored me.
“I am deeply grateful and overwhelmed and happy to know that all money is going to one of many brilliant charities that help families dealing with all aspects and stages of cancer care.”
The “Brave the Shave” initiative has raised a huge amount of money for the work carried by Macmillan Cancer Care.
The charity supports people suffering from the disease as well as their families.
Anyone who wishes to donate in support of Catherine’s efforts can go to her Facebook where there is a link to a donation page.
Alternatively, donations can be left to her mother’s house at 48 Culmore Road.
