A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with assaulting her mother.

Bronagh Daisley (30) of The Meadows in Derry was charged after police were called by her mother on February 8.

Upon arrival, police found her mother to be wet, as if water had been thrown on her. She told police that she had taken her daughter's car keys in order to stop her driving while intoxicated.

Daisley was said to have become abusive following this, throwing water over her mother before being locked out of the house.

She then proceeded to shout abuse at police at the scene.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said he had 'no idea' how someone like Daisley found herself in this situation, telling the court that alcohol likely played a part in it.

Deputy District Judge Alan White called her behavior 'shameful' but added that she had 'no relevant record', giving her a conditional discharge for two years.
