Derry bonfire investigation leads to three arrests

A 23-year-old man faces criminal damage and road obstruction charges following a police probe into the Lecky Flyover incident.
Police in Derry have made three arrests in connection with a bonfire built in the city earlier this summer.
On Saturday, August 15 a group of persons began building a bonfire at the bottom of Lecky Flyover, Lecky Road.
The bonfire obstructed the road, causing significant disruption to traffic in the same area.
Items placed on the bonfire included flags, banners, political material, sashes and football shirts.
As part of the ongoing investigation into the bonfire and those involved, police have made three recent arrests in the city.
One man, aged 23, has since been charged with criminal damage, causing material to be deposited on or over a road, and obstruction of a road.
He is due to appear before Derry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 4. As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Meanwhile, two young males arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and other related offences have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Our evidence-gathering operation remains ongoing, and police will continue to investigate all offences connected to this incident.
