Derry City crash out of FAI Cup in Cork
CORK CITY 3, DERRY CITY 0
Derry City will end the 2015 season without a trophy after a 3-0 defeat by Cork City in tonight’s FAI Cup quarter-final replay at Turners Cross tonight.
Level 0-0 at half-time, the home side emerged in the second period to pile pressure on the visiting defence.
However, Derry held firm and as the half progressed they came more into the game and were unlucky not to go in front when a Stephen Lowry shot came back off the post in the 67th minute and Mark McNulty was forced to make his first save of the game when substitute Mark Timlin (pictured) latched on to the rebound.
But Derry were rocked by two quick goals against the run of play.
Ross Gaynor gave Doherty no chance with a screamer in the 75th minute before an unmarked Gary Buckley headed home three minutes later.
Substitute Johnny O’Flynn wrapped the win up with a third goal in the dying minutes.
Cork will travel to take on Bray Wanderers in the semi-final at the start of next month.
