A man has appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with stealing a bottle of perfume.

Joseph Calhoon (18) of no fixed abode, stole the perfume from a pharmacy in Derry on September 15.

Calhoon pleaded guilty and stated repeatedly that he was sorry for what he had done.

The court heard how Calhoon, who was only released from prison last week, had no memory of the incident and how, that day, he had overdosed on drugs and had to be resuscitated in hospital.

District Judge Barney McElhom gave him a conditional discharge for a period of two years.
