Derry Court told CCTV showed defendant going to man's door carrying a table leg

Michael McGlinchey (37) of Claremont House in Derry was charged with, on July 28, being in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a table leg, with intent to cause grevious bodily harm
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with possession of an offensive weapon, resisting police and criminal damage.
Michael McGlinchey (37) of Claremont House in Derry was charged with, on July 28, being in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a table leg, with intent to cause grevious bodily harm.
The court heard police initially received a report of two males fighting and upon arrival and seeing McGlinchey's injuries, police arrested the other man.
McGlinchey claimed the fight began as he didn't have any more drugs to give him.
However, the court was told CCTV later showed McGlinchey going to the other man's door carrying a table leg, leading police to arrest him.
Police initially took him to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and McGlinchey was said to have remained aggressive and uncooperative throughout, kicking the door of the police van and damaging the locking mechanism.
Police objected to bail as he has a relevant record and is at clear risk of reoffending.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that McGlinchey 'doesn't have a great record' but asked for him to be given a 'final chance'.
Bail was granted and he will appear again on August 22.
