Derry man charged with series of offences including assaulting police

Ryan Doherty (47) of Beraghvale Court in Derry admitted disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital on June 25
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court after breaching his bail conditions a week after he was charged.
Ryan Doherty (47) of Beraghvale Court in Derry admitted disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital on June 25.
Doherty was said to be shouting and swearing in the hospital, causing police officers to take him away. While police were restraining him, Doherty threatened to attack them, later headbutting one officer and spitting at another.
He was subsequently charged with two counts of assaulting police.
On July 2, Doherty was spotted by police looking unsteady on his feet, giving a breath reading of 108 and thus breaching his bail conditions.
Police objected to bail as they believe he is at clear risk of reoffending.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that Doherty has problems with alcohol but added that he didn't repeat any previous bad behaviour while drunk on this occasion, asking for one final chance for him to stay off alcohol.
He was released on bail to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared and will appear again on August 30.
