A man facing a series of domestic abuse offences has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today after breaching his bail.
Kiral McGilloway (35) of no fixed abode in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail on July 31.
The court heard that McGilloway was on bail on charges of witness intimidation, harassment and non fatal strangulation of a female.
Part of the bail conditions are that he has no contact with the female involved in the case.
A police officer told the court that police on patrol in the Ardmore area on July 31 saw a car that appeared to have no insurance.
They signalled the car to stop but it made off eventually stopping outside a house and a male, the defendant, and a female alighted and were detained.
The female was the woman McGilloway was not supposed to have any contact with.
A police officer said that this was not the first breach on one occasion McGilloway was found at the woman's address and on another she was found at his address.
The officer said that the woman had made a withdrawal statement but then withdrew her withdrawal.
He opposed bail on the grounds that McGilloway would not adhere to any conditions.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that while no blame attached to the alleged victim in the case there was some confusion as to whether the woman wanted to proceed with the case.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that the courts had to certain that witnesses were not intimidated or unduly influenced to withdraw evidence.
He said if that was their decision so be it.
In this case he said things should not be allowed to drag on and a decision had to be made.
But he said McGilloway did not appear to be able to adhere to bail conditions and revoked bail and remanded him in custody to appear again on August 15.
