Derry man given final warning after drinking while on bail

Ethan Collins (24) blew 170mg of alcohol before being intercepted by police on October 17
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of his bail conditions.
Ethan Collins (24) of Great James Street in Derry was on bail for assaulting a doctor in August, and his bail conditions include that he not consume any alcohol.
On October 17, police observed Collins walking in front of traffic, first talking to himself, then arguing with himself and finally shadow boxing with himself.
Police stopped him and searched for any drugs, finding nothing, but a preliminary breath test for alcohol gave a reading of 170mgs almost more that 5 times the legal limit.
Police objected to bail, as Collins had previously breached twice, once a day after it was granted, and police believe there is a clear risk of reoffending and a risk of further breaches.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Collins suffers from an addiction to alcohol but said that he had recently attended a meeting at Woodlea House.
Bail was granted with a final warning and he will appear again on October 21.
