A man has been told he was 'lucky to have been granted bail' during an appearance at Derry Magistrates' Court.

James Kelly (37) of Waterloo Place in Derry was on bail for a number of domestic assault charges and, as part of his bail, was to follow a curfew.

Kelly was arrested after breaching his curfew three times after he wasn't at his address when police called.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that Kelly had 'taken a drink' and decided that it was a good idea to stay out late but the court heard that no new offences had been committed.

Deputy District Judge Brian Archer said that Kelly was 'very fortunate' to have been granted bail at all considering the nature of his charges, releasing him again with a new condition that he is not to be intoxicated in public and a warning that one more breach would land him in custody.
