Derry man who was contacting former fiancee in breach of a restraining order remanded

Joseph McBride (38) of Crawford Square in Derry appeared charged with harassment of a female on dates between February 2 and July 22 this year
A man who was contacting his former fiancee in breach of a restraining order, set up a new e-mail account after the woman blocked him, Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
Joseph McBride (38) of Crawford Square in Derry appeared charged with harassment of a female on dates between February 2 and July 22 this year.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.
The court heard that police were contacted by the alleged victim in the case who said her ex-fiancée had contacted her on 'multiple occasions' in breach of a Restraining Order.
She claimed that between February 2 and June 30 the defendant had made numerous phone calls and sent text messages.
The court heard that the woman blocked some of his emails and he set up a new account.
The police officer said that the Restraining Order was clear there was to be no contact.
The court heard that McBride was due for sentence later this week on charges linked to the harassment of another female.
The officer said that there was a clear risk of re-offending and opposed bail.
Defence counsel Grainne McAnaney said that on paper this was 'difficult application' but added there was a context behind the behaviour.
She said that the relationship had broken down due to McBride's alcohol consumption and the alleged victim simply had enough.
She asked for an opportunity to be given to McBride by releasing him on bail.
Bail was refused and McBride was remanded in custody to appear again on July 26.
