Derry students gift books to Children’s Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital
Year 13 initiative brings a "thoughtful and generous" library of stories to young patients and their families in Derry
The Western Trust has extended a heartfelt thank you to Year 13 students from Derry's Thornhill College following a massive community book drive that resulted in a donation of 415 books to the Children’s Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital.
The initiative, led by students Leonelle, Ava, and Lucy, involved a school-wide collection to provide comfort and entertainment for young patients undergoing treatment. Accompanied by their teacher, Maeve McCullagh, the students visited the hospital to personally present the collection to Senior Sister Hazel Gallo.
The donation ensures that the ward’s library remains well-stocked with a variety of stories, helping to provide a welcome distraction and a sense of normalcy for children in the hospital.
