A Derry woman who wrote a children's book has raised over £1,500 for a charity.

Bronagh Kearney wrote Mighty Mia And The Marvellous Millie to help her niece discover that she has a ‘superpower’.

She wrote and illustrated the book for her niece Mia and her sister Danielle as a surprise gift to help Mia learn about being born with Scimitar syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect characterised by anomalous venous return from the right lung.

In the book, it is Bronagh’s golden retriever, Millie, who informs her niece that she has a superpower.

Bronagh took to Facebook to share the news that the book has raised £1,740 with full proceeds going to Children’s Heartbeat Trust, a charity that offers practical & emotional support to children, young people, and their families living in Northern Ireland with heart disease.

She said: “THANK YOU !!! Mighty Mia and the Marvellous Millie have raised £1,740, with full proceeds going to @childrensheartbeattrust, a charity very close to our hearts.

“I’m so appreciative of everyone who purchased my book or made a donation over the last few months. This money will help so many, and I hope the book empowers many more children to embrace who they are.”
