Motorist fined and handed six points after being clocked at excessive speed in a high-spec vehicle

A man who was detected driving at 104mph in a 70mph zone has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Kyle Douglas (40) of St. George's Gardens in Belfast was charged with speeding and having no licence on December 10 last year.

Defence solicitor Paddy Clay said that it was a case that his licence had expired and simply had not been renewed.

In regards to the speeding, he said that Douglas was driving his son's car and had 'a momentary lapse of concentration' as it was a 'high spec vehicle'.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that driving at that speed 'not only places yourself at risk of injury but also puts others at risk'.

She said that it was a speed that would usually result in a disqualification if not for the fact that Douglas had pleaded guilty and had a clear record.

She gave him six penalty points and a fine of £450.
