'Anti-Poverty strategy is not fit for purpose'

Foyle MLA Ciara Ferguson (Sinn Fein) has called on the DUP Communities Minister to listen to what she described as the "widespread concerns" surrounding the Executive's draft Anti-Poverty Strategy.

Ms Ferguson made her comments after a letter signed by organisations and individuals from across the north was sent to the Executive to voice strong opposition to the current proposals.

She said: “The draft Anti-Poverty Strategy is undeniably weak and fails to address the real challenges faced by vulnerable families in our communities.

“The large number of organisations and individuals who have put their name to this letter illustrates the lack of faith there is in the draft Anti-Poverty Strategy to eradicate poverty. Their message is clear - the strategy is not fit for purpose.

“The DUP Communities Minister must take these concerns seriously and engage with these groups who have the skills, knowledge, and experience to help shape a strategy that truly delivers for those who need it most.”
