Hospital disorder lands Derry teen back in detention

15-year-old currently has twenty-six precious convictions, including eighteen for assault and four for criminal damage and twenty-eight breaches of bail as well as 41 pending cases
A fifteen year old with 26 previous convictions has been refused bail at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of her bail conditions and a charge of disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital.
The girl, who cannot be named due to her age, was charged with the disorderly behaviour on June 29 after police arrested her following a breach of her curfew.
She was taken to hospital after telling police she'd taken a number of tablets but refused to allow blood to be taken.
Police objected to bail as she is the highest offender in the Derry area and the second highest in the north.
She currently has twenty-six precious convictions, including eighteen for assault and four for criminal damage and twenty-eight breaches of bail as well as 41 pending cases.
She has been remanded in custody on June 2 but was later released on High Court bail on June 10.
Defence Barrister Grainne McAnaney said that there were twenty days between her previous release and her new offending, showing an improvement in her behaviour.
A social worker told the court that she speaks to the girl multiple times per week and said that she has been 'managing well' in recent times but added that she is 'on the edge of the threshold' for secure accommodation.
District Judge Suzanne Rice said that the girl has 'an appalling record' for someone of fifteen years old and spoke of her 'repetitive, constant' breaching of bail conditions.
She was remanded in custody and will appear again on July 7.
