The City of London Lord Mayor is set to visit Derry tomorrow (Tuesday) as part of a two-day visit to Ireland to discuss Brexit and business opportunities.

Dr. Andrew Parmley’s busy schedule will include a meeting with the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maoliosa McHugh, and local business representatives in the Guildhall.

According to Dr. Parmley’s office, the meeting will focus on talent and skills retention in the north-west, and education in the Brexit context.

Dr. Parmley will also meet with Peter Devine, Head of Business Development at the Intelligent Research Centre at the University of Ulster’s Magee Campus in Derry.

The City of London Mayor – who favours a soft Brexit – will travel by train from Dublin to Belfast early on Tuesday before coming on to Derry.

Dr. Parmley is the ceremonial Lord Mayor of the City Oof London and as such is the head of the City of London Corporation, based in the historic financial district of London which is also known as the Square Mile.

In essence, he is an international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector.

He works closely with the more powerful and democratically elected Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who represents the entire Greater London area.
