Man in Derry Court following breach of non-molestation order against his partner

Rhys Haywood (31) of no fixed abode was on bail for a number of domestic offences against the same person
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with breaching bail and breaking a non-molestation order.
Rhys Haywood (31) of no fixed abode was charged with, between September 27 and October 17 this year, breaching a non-molestation order against his partner. He was on bail for a number of domestic offences against the same person.
Haywood was accused by the injured party of assaulting her and sending threatening messages that supposedly left her fearing what he would do if she didn't meet him.
She claimed that, while she was in the car with him, he punched her in the head and, when she got out of the car, that he came for her.
Haywood made a number of counter allegations against his partner, saying that she was controlling him and that she was the one making serious threats against him.
He admitted to sending her the messages but claimed that she had sent worse, telling the court that he had them on his phone.
The court heard that the couple had eight domestic abuse complaints since 2023.
Defense Barrister Sinead Rogan said that the breach of the non-molestation order was relatively minor and that it happened with the consent of the injured party, with whom Haywood was still in a relationship with.
District Judge Rosie Watters released him on bail with a new condition, that he not enter the city of Derry.
He will appear again on November 14.
