Ruaidhri Higgins satisfied with Derry City's point at Galway United

Seven points from nine for Derry City heading into Monday's game against Shelbourne

Ruaidhri Higgins was satisfied with his team's efforts after a point at Galway United last night meant that it is seven points from a possible nine heading into Monday's game against league leaders Shelbourne at the Brandywell.
On a night of few goals around the League of Ireland, it was a stalemate at Eamon Deacy Park, with both sides hitting the woodwork in a game of few chances.
Brian Maher saved Derry earlier on with a fantastic save to tip Borden's effort onto the crossbar, while Pat Hoban had a half chance towards the break but he shot straight at Brendan Clarke.
Cameron McJannet then almost put through his own goal in the second half, but his header across goal was again well saved by Maher.
Derry City had the best chances to win it in the final 10 minutes, with Ben Doherty shooting wide before Sean Patton sent an effort just wide of the post. But Will Patching came closest with a beautiful curling effort from 25 yards in the final minute which bounced off the top of Clarke's crossbar.
"I'm really happy with the effort," Higgins said afterwards. "Neither team had had real clear cut opportunities, we had a few chances towards the end and we looked the the team who was finishing stronger and who could maybe nick it. But I thought the effort was there and we controlled a lot of the game. They are a really stubborn team Galway, they have only conceded seven goals all season and in the moments where we did create opportunities we just weren't clinical enough. That's slightly disappointing but we have taken seven points from the last nine which we can be satisfied with."
The Candystripes now head into Monday's game with Shelbourne unbeaten in three games.
"We have kept another clean sheet which is a positive," Higgins continued. "We didn't create as many chances as we have done in previous weeks. We obviosuly go into another difficult game on Monday. Our supporters travelled in great numbers considering the journey, so fair play to them and it was just a shame that we didn;t pick up the three points for them, but we'll need our crowd on Monday now to get right behidn us and try and get us over the line ina big game against a really good team."
