A twelve-year-old girl has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court for breaching bail conditions.

The girl, who cannot be named due to her age, was on bail for criminal damage and false imprisonment and is currently in a children's home.

She was said to have been threatening other children and members of staff.

Defence barrister Graine McAnaney told the court that the accusations were 'only allegations' and that the statements were 'very vague'.

District Judge Barney McElhom said, when considering bail, that some children's homes have a 'culture of bullying' and that he had to weigh up the defendant's rights with the rights of the other children.

He released her to an address approved by the PSNI and the Western Trust.

She will appear again on November 16.
