Watch: Dungiven homes pelted with eggs over the weekend

A Dungiven councillor has expressed anger after a number of homes were egged by youths in the town over the weekend.

Up to five young people were captured on CCTV pelting eggs at properties in the Garvagh Road area of the town in the early hours of Sunday morning.

One of the properties belongs to an 80 year-old woman, who has been left ‘terrified’ by the ordeal, according to Sinn Féin Councillor Sean McGlinchey.

Councillor McGlinchey said the incident happened at around 3am on Sunday morning.

“Dozens of eggs were thrown at this row of houses at around 3am on Sunday morning, it’s an absolute disgrace,” said Councillor McGlinchey.placeholder image

“One of the houses belongs to an 80 year-old woman and she has understandably been left terrified by it all.

“You have to ask the question - why were these children out running the streets at this time of the morning, where were their parents?  I think it is time parents started to take more responsibility.”placeholder image

The councillor said new benches, which were recently installed at the Old Priory in the town just a few weeks ago, were burnt over the weekend, however it is not known if both incidents are linked.

He said staff from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have been tasked to the area this morning ‘to clean up the mess’.
