WEATHER ALERT: 'Summer' has arrived - but the rain, gales and snow stay with us!

The clocks springing forward yesterday morning may have marked the move into summer but weather-wise - winter is still with us!

Derry is one again on “yellow alert” with gales, hail, sleet and snow (on high ground) forecast the next 24 hours.

Today’s persistent rain is beginning to move away but after of clear periods, scattered overnight showers will turn increasingly to snow over hills with northwesterly winds becoming stronger with temperatures as low as 3C.

Forecasters are predicting a cold and windy day for tomorrow with heavy showers once again bringing snow on higher ground.

Although temperatures are predicted to be 8C, it will feel bitterly cold in strong to gale force westerly winds.

Sunshine and scattered showers, wintry on hills, are forecast for Wednesday along with cold northwesterly winds.

The winds will be lighter on Thursday with a little rain which will turn heavy on Friday.

The good news is that things are set to improve over the Easter weekend.
