Carn, Moville students are on the case during Garda work experience

Gardaí praise students after a busy week of work experience exploring the realities of policing in Inishowen
Transition year students from Carndonagh Community School and Moville Community College got a first-hand insight into the work of An Garda Síochána during a special work experience placement at Buncrana Garda Station this week.
The programme gave the students an opportunity to see the wide range of duties carried out by local gardaí, with activities co-ordinated by Garda Shaun McLaughlin, Garda Peter McGee and Garda Kevin McDaid.

As part of the placement, the students took part in checkpoints and roadside speed checks, gaining an insight into road safety enforcement and the day-to-day responsibilities of frontline officers.
They also learned about the regulations governing the treatment of persons in custody, the use of force within An Garda Síochána and the operation of the stinger device used to stop vehicles.
The programme extended beyond the station, with the students visiting the District Court and receiving visits from members of the Armed Support Unit and the Scenes of Crime Unit.
The experience provided an opportunity to learn about different specialist roles within the force and the work involved in policing local communities.
Buncrana Garda Station thanked all the Garda units, members and others who helped facilitate the placement, as well as the participating students.
In a message following the programme, gardaí said they had thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the students and expressed the hope that the experience had been worthwhile and enjoyable for everyone involved.
