Cllr Liam Blaney thanked Donegal County Council for quickly removing Islamophobic graffiti at Warden Beach and called for funding to repaint the toilet block.

Cllr Liam Blaney thanked the Donegal County Council for its quick actions during this week's Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting.

Cllr Blaney, Fianna Fáil, thanked the council for its urgent clean-up of graffiti that appeared on a toilet block at Warden Beach, Portsalon, earlier in the week.

The graffiti, which included Islamophobic comments, had been attempted to be removed by the use of a power washer, but the paint used was ‘too high of quality’ to come off easily, Cllr Blaney said.

Cllr Blaney has now called for funding to repaint the entire toilet block.

“The writing itself has been painted over. My one ask now is that we get a budget to repaint the toilets," he said.

Cllr Blaney also stated that he disapproves of the distribution of pictures of the graffiti on social media, saying he worries that the perpetrator will ‘feel good about themselves.’

Cllr Declan Meehan, independent, described the incident as “scandalous, mindless vandalism”.

Cllr Meehan further appealed for anyone with information on those responsible to contact An Garda Síochána.
